Church Disrupt Funerals - Patriot Riders to the Rescue
December 28, 2005 |
Protesters from Westboror Baptist Church picketed the funeral of St. Louis Army Specialists Peter Navarro (video). The Minister Fred Phelps and his band have protested 80 funerals of U.S. troops killed in Iraq since June (hat tip to Michelle Malkin).
However a veteran group of bike riders of all political leanings have formed the Patriot Guard Riders.
We have one thing in common besides motorcycles. We have an unwavering respect for those who risk their very lives for America???s freedom and security. If you share this respect, please join us.
We don???t care what you ride, what your political views are, or whether you???re a “hawk” or a “dove”. It is not a requirement that you be a veteran. It doesn’t matter where you???re from or what your income is. You don???t even have to ride. The only prerequisite is Respect.
Our main mission is to attend the funeral services of fallen American heroes as invited guests of the family. Each mission we undertake has two basic objectives.
1. Show our sincere respect for our fallen heroes, their families, and their communities.
2. Shield the mourning family and friends from interruptions created by any protestor or group of protestors.
We accomplish the latter through strictly legal and non-violent means.
No matter how one feels about the direction of the country or about the war, protesting the funerals of men and woemn who have given their lives is disrespectful to the families who should have their time to mourn. The act has certainly riled the Indiana legislature who seems to be making road to change the laws in that state.
A state senator angered over a recent protest at an Indiana soldier’s funeral wants to make disorderly conduct a felony offense if it occurs at military funerals.
Were was this legislation for the Sheehan funeral. Oh. Excuse me. She was protesting at her own funeral. Perhaps she needed protection from herself. Hats off to the patriots helping the grieving families. Let Phelps find another venue for his rant.

The Westboro Baptist Church isn’t so much protesting as rejoicing. Holding up signs like “Thank God for Dead Soldiers” and spewing their hateful message. I for one am glad that there are people like the Patriot Guard who will still stand up for respect and honor. You can read my article about the Westboro Baptist Church on my page.
A tearful day for the family of that beautiful young American soldier who lost his life protecting our country. Thank you to the Patriot Riders for protecting his family from slurs and degrading signs held by a few radical unchristian people. How lucky we Americans are to have patriotic people like your group supporting a family in their deepest hour. Hopefully those few radicals will realize that they are judging a country that gives them the right to protest, however their should be legislation forbiding such dispicable behavior at the funeral of a fallen hero. I, along with the majority of Americans, praise all the Patriot Riders and are thankful for their service in the military and in civilian life.
as a vietnam veteran..It DISTURBS me greatly to see the actions of those who would disrupt a funeral of an american soldier..Making an unbearable situation worse helps no one ,educates no one,and aggravates to no end those who have served and those who are currently in the military..My greatest respect goes out to the Patriot Riders –amor vincit omnia
