Natural Family Law Passed In Utah Town
February 27, 2006 |
US Newswire picked up on this story involving attempts to define conservative standards at a town meeting in Utah.
The unanimous passage of a proclamation drafted by a Christian fundamentalist group advocating conservative social values — including a narrow definition of marriage — has put the town council here at the center of a fight over separation of church and state.
The Natural-Family approach is conservative but comes from the Southerland Institute, a group with close ties to the Latter Day Saints Church. The MSM labels it as a Christian group but for Christians aware of their doctrine of being God makers know that this is a pseudo-Christian group. But they are known for there pro-family image (since denouncing polygamy). Here is part of their explanation.
“We are proposing a set of normative values and principles upon which to build a lasting society. This is why marriage policy, and everything else related to the natural family, matters at all.”
A website setup in response to the conservative movement is here. They have several long quotes from the resolution which is interesting reading or at least a quick glance over. Here are shorter clips.
“We envision a local culture that upholds the marriage of a woman to a man, and a man to a woman, as ordained of God. This culture affirms marriage as the best path to health, security, fulfillment, and joy. It casts the home built on marriage as the source of true political sovereignty and ordered liberty. It also holds the household framed by marriage to be the primary economic unit, a place marked by rich activity, material abundance, and broad self-reliance.”
The section causing more of the buzz…
Whereas, the natural family is the fundamental unit of society and is entitled to protection in Utah by local and state governments;” “Whereas, the natural family is the locus of the true common good and that citizens of the City of Kanab help ourselves when we help our families;” “Whereas, the natural family results in healthier, happier, more productive, and more civically-engaged adults as well as healthier, happier, safer, and better educated children;” “Whereas, most serious public pathologies, including crime, delinquency, illegal drug use, domestic violence, long-term poverty, and low educational achievement, are closely associated with family breakdown and disorder;”
Interesting. Not surprising it found local support in Utah. Certainly solid, stable family units as designed by our Creator will bring benefits that other arrangements will bring. The criticism about ‘traditional’ marriages may be valid but it isn’t because the family doesn’t work. It is because ‘traditional’ marriages have not listened to its designer on how to make it work better. Remember it only takes one not listening in the relationship to head it into the rocks.
Wonder how this will turn out. Some how I don’t think it will be spreading nationwide. These things will be seen as antiquated and not ‘relevant’ for our culture today. A culture of diversity and political correctness.
