While the foiled plot in the UK has made headlines and the terror threat level is elevated to “code red” on flights you might have missed some news from the heartland. One might remember that Hamtramck has what may say is the largest concentration of Muslims in the United States. It was long ago that Hamtramck also became the first city in the United States to have public calls to prayer broadcast over loud speakers from between 6 am to 10 pm.

The city council’s adoption this week of an ordinance that allows the calls between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. has spurred debate about where the right to religious freedom ends and the right to quiet begins. Now, a flood of dissent has turned Hamtramck into a national symbol of culture clash, an intersection of turmoil and tolerance. What began as a simple question of noise has become a flash point of religious distrust, difference, and fear of Muslim “outsiders.”

There have been concerns about the source of money coming in from more radical elements of the Islamofacists from the middle east to help promote radicalized teachings among the population in the Detroit area and other places in the United States. One might be tempted to compare it to funds sent by American churches around the world but the two are dis-similar. Especially when compared to the teaching on Jihad and the fight against western culture.

So with that in mind it should not be surprised that many are concerned about questionable activity here in the midwest.

Two Dearborn men accused of loading up on hundreds of untraceable phones were arraigned in Ohio on charges of money laundering to support terrorism, Wednesday.

Ali Houssaiky and Osma Sabhi Abulhassan were arrested after buying a number of pay-as-you-go cell phones. A suspicious clerk called police who pulled the men over.

Police said the men initially lied, but then under interrogation admitted to buying 600 phones. Authorities are concerned that if shipped to the Middle East, the chips from the phones may be used to remotely detonate car bombs.

When arrested the men had a map of every Wal-Mart from Michigan to North Carolina, where the same type of phones are sold.

The family is ’shocked’ and offer an explanation that they are simply in the phone business. This seems obvious but they offer no explanation as to who their ‘boss’ sells all these phones to… ie. maybe “O’Sam Ben Lawden”?

Junkyard Blog notes that they didn’t have names like Sven but Osama. That alone might raise the suspicion level just a bit.

But if one has a short memory as to why this particular activity is of concern. Just read Michelle Malkin’s reminder from the recent past. It should spark your interest and concern. Welcome to the heartland!
