Strickland: Puts “Anti” into Ohio
September 23, 2006 |
Republicans and Democrats in Ohio all seem to agree one one thing. That we want an Anti-Taft in office. What surprises me the most is that some seem to think that Strickland might be the answer to Ohio’s economy. The oft cited reason is that “we gave the Republicans a chance” and it just didn’t work out.
The problem is that it wasn’t conservative Republicans that were the problem. The problem was moderate to liberal Republicans who kept having knee jerk twitches to the left. Taft was more like a Dem on many issues. Taft helped raise the taxes, spending while holding back 2nd amendment rights. So, I understand the reaction. But some need to ask the question: What will I get if I vote for Strickland?
Teddy Strickland said it best about himself.
“I have a record. People know what’s important to me, and they can find out what’s important to me by looking at my record - a 12-year record in the House of Representatives. I am not likely to change once I become governor. People can look at my record and decide if I’m a reasonable guy that has good ideas that is going to lead Ohio forward or not.”
Based on his record he has received less than stellar ratings on taxes which affect both you and I… as well as business in Ohio.
* Ted Strickland received a 13% rating or “F” from the National Taxpayers Union, which annually ranks members of Congress on votes that affect taxes, spending, debt, and regulatory burdens on consumers and taxpayers. Strickland’s rating earned him a “Big Spender” label on tax votes.
* Ted Strickland voted only 8% of the time with Americans for Tax Reform, rejecting important tax reform legislation such as the Taxpayer Protection Pledge and the Deficit Reduction Act.
* Ted Strickland received only a 12% rating from the political action group FreedomWorks, which annually fights for lower taxes and less government through a nationwide network of volunteer activists. FreedomWorks cited Strickland’s opposition to permanently ending the estate tax and his vote against the Lawsuit Abuse Reduction Act as examples of Strickland’s support for higher taxes and bigger government.
Project Logic has Strickland down as Taft 2.0 with two positions for every issue. Something you could put to a Beach Boys song if you ask me. When you think Taft don’t just think Tax but think Kerry. For birds of a feather flock together.
Strickland says he is pro-gun. But like most topics he has switched sides on… we have to ask ourselves can we afford to take such chances with fundamental rights granted by the Constitution. He has taken on a running mate that isn’t pro-gun but very anti-gun.
Strickland drew the wrath of some gun groups for his selection of Fisher, who supported gun control when he was attorney general from 1991-95, as his running mate. Strickland doesn’t think that will cost him the support of most gun owners.
I have talked to some pro-gun Dems who are bright enough to see through Strickland’s duplicity on this issue and plan to vote for Blackwell. Blackwell is the Anti-Taft candidate. If you choice Strickland you will get “Anti” for sure, like Anti-gun, Anti-business and Anti-small government.
Do you remember Zell Miller who didn’t like the direction of the radical left in the Democratic party taking over? A year ago Zell endorsed? You guessed it… Blackwell.

Strickland and Blackwell are so far in the pockets of lobbyists they might as well knit a sweater out of the pocket lint.
The only candidate with any shred of credibility in this race is the economist Bill Peirce. Blackwell and Strickland know this, and they’re doing their damndest to keep him on the sidelines because his plans actually make sense and aren’t pie in the sky government bandaids for a broken system. I think his campaign is doing all the right things to get him in the spotlight where he belongs and I’m glad I’m finally able to vote for such a great candidate.
