Open Trackbacks - No Gaffe By Bush With Pope

Some are saying Bush blew it when addressing the Pope… by omitting the words “his holiness”.
People are apparently upset that President Bush violated protocol in his meeting with Joe Ratzinger this morning.
US President George W Bush drew gasps at the Vatican on Saturday by referring to Pope Benedict XVI as “sir†instead of the expected “His Holinessâ€, pool reporters said. They could clearly hear the US leader say “Yes, sir†when the pope asked him if he was going to meet with officials of the lay Catholic Sant’Egidio community at the US embassy later during his visit.
Bush isn’t Catholic and if one has a conscience problem with referring to a person as “His Holiness” then there shouldn’t be a breach of protocol. I wonder if any Muslim Dignitaries have referred to the Pope with this title. I don’t think so and that certainly didn’t make news. Provide a link to this post and use the trackback url.
